The core catcher (CC) is a key element of the passive safety system of a nuclear power plant.
The equipment traveled more than 2,000 km on waterways in 16 days. The body of the CC and related elements with a total weight of over 730 tons were shipped from the production site of Tyazhmash JSC in Syzran. The route passed along the Volga, through the White, Onega and Ladoga Lakes, and the final stage of the route ran along the water area of the Gulf of Finland – along the famous sights of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region.
Currently, the equipment is located on the town pier in Sosnovy Bor – an important logistics facility of TITAN-2 Holding. specialists of PJSC “NBD” provided direct support of transportation and coordination of cargo delivery.
JSC CONCERN TITAN-2, acting as the general contractor for the construction of new power units of the NPP, strengthened the roads in advance, arranged access roads, prepared load lifting equipment and the necessary infrastructure elements. This will allow to deliver as efficiently as possible.
Preparatory work is currently being completed at the nuclear island construction site of Leningrad NPP-2 power unit 4. Soon the CC together with its elements will be transported to the construction site, where TITAN-2 specialists will install the equipment in the design position in the reactor cavity. It was decided to perform part of the key operations planned for the current year ahead of schedule, the builders were tasked with installing the body of the core catcher two months ahead of schedule.
