The equipment weighing 120 tons was installed in the concrete reactor cavity resting on the cantilever truss within one working shift.
Reminder: the first components of the core catcher (or the CC) were installed in the design position back in October last year. The core catcher is the first safety system of the future power unit. Its main function is to catch the fuel in case of emergency and prevent its contact with the environment.
Konstantin Khudyakov, Program Director for Leningrad NPP Facilities, JSC CONCERN TITAN-2:
“As of today, the reactor cavity of power unit 3 is 55% ready and filled with equipment weighing almost 900 tons. However, all the most important operations for this key structure are still ahead. In the future, we will install a support truss and a thrust truss, a thrust ring and a support ring in it, assemble the measuring channels, separating bellows, concrete it to the design height, in order to install the reactor vessel in the cavity next year. Currently, construction and installation works are underway at 53 facilities of power units 3 and 4 of the Leningrad NPP. More than 1,400 people and 190 pieces of equipment are involved in the work. The activities are on schedule; some are ahead of schedule.”
Information note from TITAN-2 Holding
TITAN-2 Holding (part of ROSATOM State Corporation) is one of the key participants in large-scale nuclear industry projects in Russia and abroad.
The Holding companies perform a full cycle of work: design, construction organization, construction, electric installation, commissioning of facilities.
Today, TITAN-2 is the general contractor of the construction of new power units of the Leningrad, Kola and Smolensk NPPs, participates in implementation of the PDEC “Breakthrough” project in Seversk, as well as in the largest international nuclear projects – Akkuyu NPP in Türkiye, Paks II NPP in Hungary and El-Dabaa NPP in Egypt.
New power units of the Leningrad NPP and the Kursk NPP-2, the Core Shared Research Facility Siberian Circular Photon Source (SKIF) in Novosibirsk, as well as the facilities of Innopolis in Tatarstan are among the projects completed by the Holding. The competencies of TITAN-2 are also in demand in construction of large industrial, research, social and infrastructural facilities.
