Yesterday, Hanhikivi-1 project took a step forward as British Rolls-Royce and French Schneider Electric were chosen as preferred automation suppliers subject to the final contract negotiations. Rolls-Royce would be the main supplier and provide the protection automation. Schneider Electric would be the operational I&C systems supplier. The deal – worth hundreds of millions of euros – includes both the design and delivery of automation systems.
At this stage, the selection of automation providers is important for the progression of the nuclear power plant’s design work and licencing.
The nuclear power plant’s automation system monitors, controls and protects the operation of the plant’s reactor, systems and equipment. The protection automation detects abnormalities in the functioning of the nuclear reactor and systems and initiates necessary protective measures.
The Pyhäjoki nuclear power plant will be completed in 2024. At the moment, preparatory work for the construction of the nuclear power plant is ongoing.
