The main topic of the meetings was the preparation for one of the key stages of the construction of power unit 1 – concreting the foundation slab of the reactor building, which is scheduled for March 2027.

Participants of the operative staff meetings inspected the site and checked the performance of work at infrastructure facilities. Currently, intensive preparatory work is underway at the site:

- Vertical land leveling of the construction base and construction of on-site roads are underway.
- Construction of the canteen foundations, as well as the engineering buildings of the customer and the contractor is nearly completed. The next stage is the construction of building frames.
- The foundations of the concrete and reinforcement production buildings are being arranged; metal structures are being manufactured at the same time for their subsequent installation.
- The pit of the transformer substation to provide electricity to the construction base is being excavated.
- The General Designer is drilling boreholes for engineering and geotechnical survey.

The obtained data will allow to clarify the soil properties and, if necessary, make adjustments to the standard design. Most of the boreholes are already there.

Pavel Tkachenko, Deputy Director of Smolensk NPP Construction Program, JSC CONCERN TITAN-2:
“Now more than 190 people are working at the site and about 48 pieces of equipment are involved. By summer, we plan to increase the number of staff to 1,000 specialists. For their comfortable living and work, a construction camp with residential modules, canteens and a medical center is being built.
At each stage, we pay special attention to the safe performance of work and occupational health and safety. We are also actively implementing the best practices that have already proven our effectiveness at other ROSATOM facilities.”

Concreting of the reactor foundation slab will be an important milestone in implementation of the Smolensk NPP-2 project, symbolizing the transition from preparatory stage to the active construction of the main building of the power unit. Construction works are carried out in strict accordance with the approved schedule and in compliance with all current safety requirements.
