An important element of the reactor under construction – thrust truss, was installed in the reactor compartment of Power Unit 4. This is a large metal structure designed to securely fix the reactor vessel inside the concrete shaft.

Before installation, the specialists carried out preparatory work at the construction site: the truss was assembled from separate elements and welded into a single structure. Such preparation is necessary, since the equipment is delivered to the site disabled into components. After the assembly was completed, the installation crews lifted the structure and installed it in the design position. The whole operation took several hours.

The thrust truss is a welded metal structure with a diameter over 7 meters, a height of about 1 meter and a weight of about 27 tons. After its installation, the reactor cavity will be poured with special-purpose concrete, which will provide additional strength and stability of the entire structure.

Sergey Gladchenko, Project Manager for Construction of Nuclear Island of Units 1 and 4, T2IC:

“The installation of the thrust truss is one of the milestones of construction of Power Unit 4. Installation of such large structures requires particularly careful preparation. We check the readiness of supporting steel structures in advance, prepare the necessary equipment, take into account weather conditions and employ skilled installation teams. Thanks to this well-coordinated effort, we were able to successfully complete the installation and go on with construction.”
