Unit transformers are strategically important equipment, which is a key link in the future power output scheme of the power unit. The work performed opens the possibility for creating a complete electrical circuit of the power unit: from the generator to the power transmission to the grid.

Evgeny Ushakov, Project Manager for construction of nuclear island, T2IC:
“Installation of the unit transformer finalized large-scale preparatory and installation work. Before that, equipment weighing almost 300 tons was delivered and moved using a unique rigging system. Installation was carried out by highly qualified specialists under supervision of the chief engineer of the manufacturer. After installation, a critical assembly stage started: installation of high-voltage bushings, cooling and oil processing systems, connection of monitoring and protection circuits. This was followed by individual tests to confirm the metrics of the equipment. For builders, this means transition of the power unit from the construction work to technical preparation for power output.”

Ivan Kozin, Head of Electrical Works Department, TSM-Enerji:
“Indeed, we have completed one of the important stages – rigging of unit transformers. It includes loading at the warehouse, transportation and installation of transformers in the design position. Rigging of equipment of such scale is possible only due to the well-coordinated work of multiple services on- and off-site. All work was completed in accordance with the schedule and on time. But it is too early to rest: today, work is underway on fully piping the transformers, as well as on installing conductors for 24 kV and 400 kV. This will allow to install a line from the generator to the switchgear and control gear and then to the grid by summer.”
