The event took place today, on February 5. This is one of the milestones in the life cycle of a nuclear facility. It symbolizes a transition to the full-scale construction of facilities at the future NPP.

The official ceremony was attended by the Director General of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations of Hungary, Péter Szijjártó, and the General Director of Rosatom State Corporation, Alexei Likhachev.

“Today’s milestone illustrates the productive and mutually beneficial relations that have between our countries. Paks II NPP is a logical extension of our long-term cooperation in nuclear energy. For Hungary, Paks II NPP is certainly a strategic step that will give a number of fundamental advantages to the country, will become a driver the development of the national economy. For Rosatom, this project is yet another proof of our leadership in the nuclear industry and a contribution to the development of the Russian industry.”

“Concreting of Paks II NPP Power Unit 5 is the result of well-coordinated work of the international team and an important milestone in implementing the Paks II NPP project. Many months of preparation preceded this milestone. The work was carried out in close cooperation with our Hungarian partner – Bayer Construct. A high degree of coordination made it possible to enforce compliance with all process-related, environmental and regulatory requirements. After the foundation is ready, erection of the inner and outer containment of the reactor building, construction of floors and installation of equipment will begin. The core catcher – a component of the passive safety system – will be installed first.
