The Board of the Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NDK) of the Republic of Turkey has issued permission to AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC to commission the first power unit. NDK confirmed that all requirements of Turkish legislation and international standards for NPP construction have been met.
With the receipt of permission to commission Unit 1 of the Akkuyu NPP, a new and important stage in the life of the project begins. This allows the builders to begin commissioning works.
The next stage is to obtain a license to operate the first power unit, which will allow loading nuclear fuel into the reactor and starting pre-commissioning control operations.
Licensing is an important stage affecting all stages of the life cycle of a nuclear power plant: site selection, design, construction, operation and decommissioning.
Currently, specialists continue to develop technical documentation for submitting an application for a license.
