President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan took part in the official ceremony on this occasion via a video conference.
The Russian leader granted a permission to the State Corporation Rosatom General Director to hand over the certificate confirming the delivery of the fuel at the Akkuyu NPP site with observation of all safety standards and requirements to the Turkish party and the Turkish President instructed to hoist the symbolic atomic flag for peace.
Wheeled platforms with transport packages inside of which the fuel assemblies were delivered at site followed from the checkpoint to the fresh fuel storage. They will be stored there in compliance with all process requirements.
The storage building constructed by the Akkuyu NPP construction workers is made of a special heavy-duty reinforced concrete with a thickness of 1800 mm. Enclosure structures, inner walls and partitions of the storage are made of the cast-in-situ reinforced concrete and the thickness of the building roofing is 1500 mm. Besides, the construction workers have performed the installation of electrical and utility systems and process equipment. Two overhead cranes with a lifting capacity of 50 tons will be operating in the facility.
After the readiness of the first unit for the fueling is reached, the specialists will place the fuel inside the reactor and perform the physical start-up.
Thus, Akkuyu NPP will become a nuclear facility and the Republic of Turkey will gain the status of a country with atomic technologies for peace.
