Tier 3 of the inner containment (IC) of the reactor building of Power Unit No. 2 of Akkuyu NPP (the Republic of Turkey) has been installed

The sections of the inner containment were manufactured in Sosnovy Bor at the production site of LLC TITAN TECHNOLOGY PIPELINE (LLC TPL), delivered by sea from Bronka port in Saint Petersburg to the Akkuyu NPP construction site and then assembled into a single cylindrical structure. IC Tier 3 consists of 24 sections – two tiers of 12 sections each. Weight of the structure is 321.9 t, the height is 12 metres, the length of circumference is 138 metres.

Installation of Tier 3 with the use of heavy crawler crane Liebherr LR 13000 took more than 12 hours. Upon completion of installation of Tier 3 the height of reactor building of Power Unit No. 2 of Akkuyu NPP reached 28.95 metres. The specialists will further proceed to the lineup of Tiers 2 and 3, reinforcement and concreting of the containment. Once the installation of all the components is completed, the containment will be tested for tightness.

Once IC Tier 3 of Power Unit No. 2 is installed, works related to erection of walls inside the containment area up to the elevation of +8.000 will be performed. Works related to erection of outline walls and auxiliary facility walls as well as the works for arrangement of reactor cavity are being conducted at the main facilities of Power Unit No. 2 concurrently with the erection of inner containment.
