They performed an important operation at the first Power Unit of the Nuclear Power Plant under construction: connected the outlet channel and the siphon well – the facilities, which would ensure removing of the sea and demineralised water after cooling of the nuclear power plant equipment.
Prior to construction of onshore facilities, builders performed a large amount of works for the land development and generation of the coastline. After soil improvement arrangement of siphon wells and outlet channels structures has begun. At the following stage builders will start arranging the tunnels and pipelines.
Construction of onshore facilities is one of the key stages of the Akkuyu NPP preparation to commissioning works, as they will provide the NPP with water for thermal and mechanical equipment cooling. Sea water is not directly involved into the reactor cooling: it will be fed to turbine condensers in order to cool the steam in the secondary circuit without being exposed to radiation.
Outlet channels and siphon wells are constructed concurrently for the first and second Power Units of the Akkuyu NPP. 700 workers and specialists working continuously in shifts are engaged in the construction of these facilities.
