The event was held at the Akkuyu NPP construction site with the participation of Fatih Dönmez, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey, and heads of organisations that participated in the project. Among them were Aleksey Likhachyov, Director General of the Rosatom State Corporation, Anastasiya Zoteyeva, Director General of JSC Akkuyu Nuclear, as well as Grigory Naginskiy and Fırat Çeçen, heads of TİTAN2 IC İÇTAŞ İNŞAAT ANONİM ŞİRKETİ, a Russian and Turkish joint venture and the general contractor for construction of the Akkuyu NPP.

The construction licence for Power Unit 3 of the Akkuyu NPP was issued by the Nuclear Regulatory Authority of Turkey last November. Foundation slab concreting was preceded by a whole set of preparatory works: water lowering, pit excavation, installation of concrete pad and waterproofing, reinforcement of foundation, and installation of embedded parts.

Construction and installation works are performed at construction sites of all four power units of the Akkuyu NPP. To date, the core catcher and the reactor dry shielding are installed in the reactor building of Power Unit 1. Works on concreting of walls of the containment inner structures and erection of outline and inner walls of the annex are underway. The third tier of the inner containment is being pre-assembled and prepared for installation. Installation of the reactor pressure vessel is among the milestones planned for Power Unit 1.

Concreting of the foundation slab of Power Unit 2 of the Akkuyu NPP was finished last year at the beginning of June. After that, installation of annular walls of the reactor building started. Concreting of annular floor slabs was performed, the core catcher was installed into the design position, and the first tier of inner containment was installed. The next milestone planned as part of the power unit construction this year is installation of the support truss into the design position.

The application document package for receiving the construction license for Power Unit 4 of the Akkuyu NPP is currently under review of the regulatory authority. Preparations for pit excavation at the construction site of power unit facilities are underway.
