The reactor dry containment is a safety element. It ensures reliable NPP operation in emergency situations including earthquakes of intensity up to 9 points.
The dry containment surrounds the reactor pressure vessel. It is a thick-walled cylindrical steel structure filled with serpentine concrete resistant to high temperatures – it withstands temperatures up to 500 °С.
The equipment weight is 142 tons, the outer diameter is more than 6.5 meters, the height is more than 5 meters. The installation has been performed with the use of a special crossarm. The Tyazhmash plant (Syzran, Russia) manufactured the dry containment for the Akkuyu NPP. The equipment successfully passed preliminarily processing tests.
