The crane will be used to build a stadium for the FIFA World Cup-2018. Football matches at the group stage and also 1/8 stage and quarterfinal matches will take place there.
The jib caterpillar crane "Manitowoc 18000" is owned by JSC Automotive Transport Department, a subsidiary company of TITAN-2 holding. The company purchased it in 2009 to use at the construction of new power units of the Leningrad nuclear power plant. Specialists of the company undertook a two-week training at Manitowoc plant in the town of Manitowoc, Wisconsin (USA).
The crane has the lifting capacity of 750 tons, the maximum crane jib reach of 97,5 meters and the maximum hook lifting height of 158,6 meters. All main mounting operations of large-size equipment at the first power unit of the Leningrad NPP under construction were performed by this crane. The crane was used to build the Northwest high-speed motorway in St. Petersburg in 2015.
Manitowoc was disassembled and transported from Sosnoviy Bor to Nizhniy Novgorod by 50 special heavy-duty trucks.
Half of work scope at the construction site of Nizhny Novgorod stadium have been already completed. The next operations are the mounting of a roof, construction of utilities, installation of all systems, which ensure functioning of the arena. Workers already started assembling the main metal structures which will form the roof of the stadium. The "Manitowoc" crane will allow mounting the roof structures by larger assemblies. One such assembly weighs 214 tons.
An experienced crane operator of JSC UAT Denis Agafapudov will operate the heavy lift crane. The crane usage contract is signed for half a year.
