The operation takes place on site near the reactor building of the Power Unit 2 of the Leningrad NPP under construction.
The polar crane assembly is performed by the hoisting installation subdivision (SMU-2) of PJSC "SUS". Depending on the complexity of the operations it involves 4 to 8 people in the team.
For installation of heavy-weight parts of the polar crane, the lifting equipment of the Department of Mechanization and Motor Transport of PJSC "SUS" is used. For difficult handling operations, two GROVE load-lifting cranes with the carrying capacity of 120 and 45 tons are used.
To date, assembly of the main beams of the crane has been completed including installation of passage galleries, barriers, installation of running wheels, tightening of high-strength bolted joints and an pre-assembly of the crane portal with platforms and barriers. The frame of the crane travelling trolley is now being assembled.
Installation of the polar crane in its place - in the dome part of the reactor building - is scheduled for the end of this year. All preassembled elements of the polar crane will be mounted on the design location by a LIEBHERR LR 11350 crane with a lifting capacity of 1350 tons. The total weight of the polar crane assembly will be about 355 tons.
At this point, the main task is to prepare for installation works of the four preassembled components of the crane: the crane bridge assembly with the movement mechanism, the portal assembly with platforms and barriers, the crane travelling trolley, and the platform under the dome of the reactor building. All these elements will be preassembled at the zero elevation by the reactor building.
